You, Gadget Neurotic!

“Uh, Hello? If you haven’t noticed, you happen to be with your girlfriend… ” Expressed myself in an sarcastic tone.  Eventually reality dawned him and kept his iphone back in his pocket.

shortly after, I pointed “I used to have an iphone and that toy? it can eat you alive.” I can already imagine the scenario if we both happen to own a touch screen gadget such as an iphone or android – both of us will end up twitting each other than talking or exchanging infrared reception playing an interactive game or reading e-books.

Oh, iphone, we were inseparable. The rehab by not owning one anymore sure did cured me but..

Few months after, the curiosity killed the cat and I was introduced to this puzzle video game developed by Finland-based Rovio Mobile, in which players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the play-field* I thought ” What is it with these angry birds and everyone is raving about it?” It may perhaps be my fault but as much as I’ve turned grateful because the boyfriend uploaded the app on his iphone, I ate my words and was eaten alive by the iphone bug once again.

Is it a good thing that I’m not getting myself an iphone, anymore? I promised myself not to succumb but thinking of owning an ipad? that smells trouble.

Then, I realized, what is it with technology that it has given too much panjandrum to us humans? We even fall asleep with it as if these are our soulmate match made in heaven? It has outsmart us to the extent we’ve become insensible to our surroundings lest alone, we can’t even leave our home or be inseparable with our mobile phones – it’s like walking around naked without it.

These gadgets reformed our defense arguments psychotics for the need of reporting to each other every minute of everyday on where we are, what we do, what we think or even why we take a crap. What happened to the trust and being prompt to meetings? the romance in writing letters and waiting for each response arrive? people send in electronic cards heck even electronic flowers online rather than the authentic ones and yet, we, the ridiculous us, thought its romantic or sweet.

Are we becoming a gadget addicted generation?

Just like taking good care of our diets, why don’t we have a detox for gadget attachments? Let’s say a couple of hours away from these gadgets? Leave it out of your sight when you’re working-out at the gym, run freely without thinking if the boss might call you for sudden concerns. What’s few hours of not within meter distance with your phone? Try it, won’t kill you, I promise.

Go on a away-from-that-mobile-phone vacation!

For now, I am undergoing hours and days of detox since the boyfriend and I don’t get to see each other everyday and, If we are? I promise to just play that damn Angry Birds when we’re on the road heading off somewhere, nope, not during traffic since this is the perfect time to talk more although, fine, maybe limit 2-3 levels to kill then I’m done for my Angry Birds dosage.

Are you up for the challenge? Have you ever tried the gadget detox?

  1. I only get to have a gadget detox when my BF borrows my iPod Touch. Aside from that, i’m surrounded with my camera, DSi, phone and laptop ALWAYS!

Oh wait, the last gadget detox I had was last year around June or July when my friends and I went to La Union for 2 days. ohhh.. no no. I still brought my gadgets with me. Bummer, looks like I’m so dependent on them. :)

      • It would be neat to go on a gadget detox, kasi from the moment I wake up, to the moment I sleep I am holding one gadget. It makes me forget other things and activities I can do, and enjoyed in the past.

      • I spend time on twitter before and after I sleep! It’s like checking my phone with my eyes half closed! Haha! :) Goodness, we’re so dependent! let’s go for the gadget detox!
